Dinosaur 13
I wanna start by saying why I picked this doc. I was interested in dinosaurs since I was a kid simply because I thought they looked really cool. This interest developed because of a game called ark I played a lot with my friends. If you know the game you know it's not really accurate because it's more for entertainment purposes, but it was still a really fun game about taming dinosaurs and going on a rampage and killing other players with them and it made me like them all the more. So Dinosaur 13 was the perfect pick for me.
1. The scene that really got to me most was a relatively early scene and it was when they came and stole Sue from the Black Hills Institute. It was a very infuriating scene for me. The selfishness and ignorance of the Federal Government is outrageous. The fact that they are able to just come do that and no one can do anything about it is outrageous. Just because they give the reason that they want to preserve science and have these people who know nothing about how to even handle the fossil seize it is outrageous. How are they gonna give the reason it's to preserve science and have the people that "stole" the fossil help them pack it up. This scene made me think "land of the free my ass". So apparently if I go to some land and buy a fossil I found from whatever guy that owns it I get it stolen from me and go to jail....cool. They had permission to go search that land and did buy it, I don't see why they were the ones getting in trouble for this if The guy wasn't even supposed to sell it to him in the first place. The whole reason they were taking it and the fashion in they did so in this scene made me very angry.
2. what surprised me is the fact that any judge could ruin anyone's life if you offend him in the slightest way. I once saw a video of a judge making some outrageous ruling and the defendant said something and just because of that another year was added to their sentence which doesn't make any sense. These people are supposed to be unbiased and make decisions based off evidence and claims, but apparently not. Peter Larson obviously had a sentence longer than needed just because he simply upset the judge is just dumb and caught me by surprise.
3. A question I still had after the film is why just the black hills institute? I'm sure lots of other fossils collectors all over the states are doing the same thing they did yet the Federal Government did nothing to search or investigate any other places just because they don't have a big almost complete T-rex? It makes no sense and just shows how selfish they are. The feelings that stayed with me are anger, The audacity to not even invite the dude that the T-rex meant most to is infuriating. Just seeing how unfair some people are treated because they found something someone else with more power wants and that they have the ability to get it has always made me angry. There's plenty of videos everywhere of people having what's precious to them taken away just because someone with more money wants it. I don't like feeling angry but it's just inevitable in a world like this.
4. We need to avoid research in summaries because it could easily show bias even if that's not really what you going for. People take things in different ways so you have to make your summary as unbiased as possible so you could show what it's actually about instead of making it into some sort of argument by providing research.
